The following video, by Dr. Tackett (colleague of mine when I was at Duke), talks about how the Central Limit Theorem works. The takeaway (which we will also show in class), is that even if the population distribution is not normal, the sampling distribution will be for a sufficiently large sample size. This is why you often see the Normal Distribution used so much in research! In practice, we often don’t know the population distribution…. and the Central Limit Theorem makes this okay.
